Chippa United chairman Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi found himself at the center of unexpected attention on social media after a post about football development plans in the Eastern Cape sparked discussions about his noticeable weight loss.

The image shared by the club’s official Twitter account, featuring Mpengesi alongside South African Football Association East London president Mxolisi “Prince” Sibam, left some netizens questioning whether it was indeed the chairman in the photo.

Amidst the flurry of comments and speculations online, Mpengesi took the opportunity to address his weight loss during a candid conversation with sports broadcaster Robert Marawa on his show on 947.

The chairman revealed that his decision to shed the excess weight was driven by a personal resolution for 2023 to make a positive change in his appearance as a public figure and role model.

Reflecting on his transformation, Mpengesi admitted, “One day when I was watching some of the repeats, you know when the TV captured me, I looked at that mkhaba (big belly) and I was not proud of myself.”

His introspective moment led him to take action and embark on a journey towards a healthier lifestyle, shedding the pounds and unveiling a slimmer physique that caught many by surprise.
