Wanted hijacking suspect arrested after jumping out of a moving vehicle
A notorious hijacking suspect was arrested by a Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Biker in Maidstone, Tongaat, on Tuesday night.
Taxi bosses chased a hijacked Toyota Quantum from Ndwedwe to Tongaat. One of the hijackers jumped from the moving vehicle as it entered Gopalall Hurbans Road.
He was initially arrested by his pursuers but managed to break free and fled into nearby bushes. His accomplices abandoned the hijacked vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.
The owner of the minibus contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre at approximately 20:58, requesting assistance to locate the suspect.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and conducted a search with other private law enforcement companies. A RUSA Biker, responding to the scene, spotted a man matching the suspect’s description fleeing along Gopalall Hurbans Road after a brief search. The officer immediately called for backup and placed the suspect under arrest. The suspect sustained facial injuries from jumping out of the vehicle.
SAPS Officers who arrived shortly thereafter informed Reaction Officers that the 34-year-old man was being sought by the Umhlali SAPS for a series of hijackings.
