The couple is wanted by the Hawks
The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, based in Nelspruit, is looking for a couple, a former Barberton Mine Administrator, Simphiwe Sangweni (age 29), and his partner, LadyPeace Sinothando Nhlenyama (age 26), for fraud, theft, and money laundering.
According to allegations, Sangweni worked for the Barberton Mine in June 2020 when he allegedly transferred company funds fraudulently into his account and then into Nhlenyama’s account, causing the mine to suffer a real loss of R1.2 million.
The Barberton mine opened the case in June 2020, and it was given to the Hawks for additional investigation. It was discovered throughout the investigation that Sangweni conspired with two former mine workers, a debtors clerk, and an assistant financial accountant.
The former employees were arrested after the court issued warrants for their arrest and their case was provincially withdrawn pending the arrest of the couple. The warrant for the arrest of the couple has also been issued by the court.
Major General Zodwa Mokoena, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s provincial head, is pleading with any members of the public who may be aware of the whereabouts of the suspected couple to come forward. They can do this by calling Captain Dietlof Meyer, the investigation’s officer, at 071 481 2977, or by reporting the incident to the local police station.
We will treat all of the information you provide in strict confidence.
