Sundowns crush Golden Arrows 5-0 at home
Mamelodi Sundowns showed their strength by defeating Golden Arrows 5-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Thapelo Morena opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing off a great setup from Lucas Ribeiro by placing the ball in the top corner.
Iqraam Rayners made it 2-0 with a simple tap-in after Sundowns broke through Arrows’ defence, with Tashreeq Matthews providing the assist.
The score could have been even higher before half-time, but Arrows goalkeeper Edward Maova made several good saves to keep his team in the match.
Arrows had a chance to score from a free-kick, but Ronwen Williams saved Knox Mutizwa’s shot in the 60th minute.
Sundowns extended their lead to 3-0 in the 74th minute when Mothobi Mvala scored from a corner taken by Teboho Mokoena, who was playing for the first time since September.
Just three minutes later, Peter Shalulile scored his first goal of the season, much to the delight of his teammates and the fans.
In the 81st minute, teenager Kutlwano Letlhaku added the final touch, scoring a great goal just seconds after coming on as a substitute.
With this win, Sundowns joined Stellenbosch FC, Magesi, and Marumo Gallants in the quarter-finals.
