Springboks star makes French connection

Jan Serfontein’s decision to extend his contract with Montpellier has dashed hopes of a potential return to South Africa for the veteran Springbok centre.

Serfontein, who has been a key player for the French club since his move from the Bulls in 2017, has reportedly signed a new contract that will keep him at Montpellier for at least one more season, with the possibility of a second year.

This news comes as a blow to Jake White, the head coach of the Bulls, who has been linked with a number of overseas-based Springboks.

Serfontein, with his experience and skill, would have been a valuable addition to the Bulls’ squad.

However, it seems that he is content to continue his career in France.

In addition to Serfontein, the Bulls were also hoping to bring back prop Trevor Nyakane from Racing 92 and lock Sintu Manjezi from Glasgow Warriors.

The return of these two players would have bolstered the Bulls’ pack and added depth to their squad.

However, it remains to be seen whether these transfers will materialize.

While it is disappointing for the Bulls and their fans to miss out on the return of Serfontein, it is important to remember that South African rugby is currently in a strong position.

The Springboks are the reigning World Champions, and the domestic game is thriving.

There is a wealth of talent available to the Bulls and other franchises, both at home and abroad.
