Rosemary 2.0 | Agnes Setshwantsho Denied Bail
In a recent court appearance, Agnes Setshwantsho, accused of murdering her family members for insurance claims, has been denied bail.
The charges against her include murder, fraud, and defeating the ends of justice.
Setshwantsho is alleged to have claimed around R3 million from a life insurance policy taken out in her niece’s name.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the decision, stating that investigations are at an advanced stage, and they are confident in the evidence gathered.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame:
“We’ve indicated that investigations are at an advanced stage, which means we are close to completing our investigations to bring the matter to trial.”
“There is a possibility of moving it to a higher court because of the seriousness of the charges,”
He added the Setshwantsho also faces a charge of fraud, in a separate matter, and the NPA is aware that there is an application of bail in that case later this month.
“We don’t have further details about that case, but we will follow it and see how it affects the current case.
“As far as the charges in today’s matter, we are confident that we have sufficient evidence and are confident that we will conclude investigations sooner than we thought,” Mamothame added.
Setshwantsho is also being investigated for the deaths of her son, daughters, and husband. The NPA anticipates bringing the matter to trial soon.
Investigating Officer Sergeant Keshi Mabunda is looking into the deaths of Setshwantsho’s husband and children.
There is a possibility of moving the case to a higher court given its seriousness.
Setshwantsho’s in-laws are advocating for the exhumation of her husband’s body to provide clarity on his death.
