Released today, booze after 5 years: No alcohol for Oscar Pistorius until 2029

Convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison into the care of his uncle Arnold but he will only be allowed to consume alcohol in 2029.

He will also not be allowed to give any media interviews.

Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo stated that the decision made by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) in November 2023 to place Pistorius on parole remains valid and will be enforced.

“Pistorius shall be admitted into the system of Community Corrections, and will be monitored until the expiry date of his sentence in 2029. An elevated public profile linked to Pistorius does not make him different from other inmates nor warrant inconsistent treatment,” said Nxumalo.

He emphasized that disclosing the details of transportation plans and the time of release could pose a security threat to Pistorius and other stakeholders.

General parole conditions will apply to Pistorius, according to Nxumalo.

He will be required to be home at specific hours of the day, abstain from consuming alcohol and other prohibited substances, and participate in programs identified by the CSPB.

Pistorius was granted parole in November, marking a significant step towards his eventual release from the Kgosi Mampuru Prison in Pretoria.

As he prepares to start a new chapter in his life, Pistorius will have to adhere to the conditions set by the parole board and adjust to life outside of prison.

While Pistorius may have an elevated public profile, he will be treated like any other inmate and subject to the same rules and regulations.
