R500 million worth of drugs go up in smoke

National commissioner of police, General Fannie Masemola, has made a significant impact in the fight against drug trafficking in South Africa.

Under his leadership, a drug destruction process took place where five tonnes of various drugs, with an estimated worth of R550 million, were destroyed.

This operation was a result of successful police operations conducted in six provinces: KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Free State, Gauteng, North West, and Mpumalanga.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the national police spokesperson, stated that the drugs confiscated included cocaine, heroin, mandrax, and cannabis.

This drug destruction process marked the fifth operation of its kind in the current financial year.

Mathe further highlighted the success of the police force in combating drug trafficking, stating, “In this financial year alone, more than R1 billion worth of drugs have been destroyed.”

This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and hard work of General Fannie Masemola and his team.

The destruction of these drugs not only removes dangerous substances from the streets but also disrupts the operations of drug cartels and criminal networks involved in the distribution of illicit substances.
