Notably, none of the quarterfinalists from the 2021 edition has made it to the last eight in the current tournament.

The remaining teams in the competition include Nigeria, Angola, Congo DR, Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, and South Africa.

Each of these teams is guaranteed at least R24.4 million in prize money, thanks to a 40% increase announced by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe ahead of the tournament.

Motsepe expressed the progress made by CAF in enhancing prize money for major competitions, stating:

“We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7 000 000, which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money.”

The breakdown of prize money for AFCON 2023 is as follows: How much can Bafana Bafana earn?

– Winner: $7,000,000 (R131 million)
– Runners-up: $4,000,000 (R75 million)
