Constable Luckyboy Zabane, arrested for stealing hijacked vehicle
A police constable stationed at Eden Park SAPS, Luckyboy Zabane, has been arrested for stealing a hijacked Ford Ranger.
The vehicle, initially hijacked in Douglasdale, was recovered in Eden Park. Police officers then reported seeing the bakkie speeding out of the station, but they were unable to locate it.
The tracking company that had first recovered the hijacked vehicle was notified and managed to trace the bakkie to a nearby residential area called Leopard Rest.The vehicle was located and recovered there.
Security at the gate informed the tracking team that the vehicle had entered the residential area escorted by a police officer stationed at Eden Park.
The security guard further alleged that the driver of the hijacked bakkie left the premises in a Fiat Uno belonging to the officer. Video footage reviewed by the police confirmed the identity of the officer as a constable from Eden Park.
The case was referred to the organized crime unit, a warrant of arrest was issued, and the officer was arrested for possession of stolen property, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice.
