It is reported  that on 10 December 2022, a Captain working for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI) in Pretoria Central, Gauteng Province, approached the complainant and told him that there were fraudulent activities taking place in his bank account and that she would be freezing his bank accounts as a result. Then, in order to prevent this from happening, she requested R250 000 (two hundred and fifty thousand rand) in gratification.

The police were notified of the situation, and they immediately started an investigation. At Bela Bela, a sting operation was carried out, and the alleged suspect was arrested after accepting the complainant’s money.

We applaud this arrest and issue a warning to other South African Police Service (SAPS) personnel that dishonest behaviour won’t be accepted within the organization. Lieutenant General Hadebe concluded.

On 19 December 2022, the suspect was due to appear in court to answer to a corruption accusation.
