Patrice Motsepe dangles R130 million

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made a significant announcement regarding an increase in prize money for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The winners of the tournament will now receive $7 million US, which is equivalent to around R130 million. This represents a 40% increase in prize money compared to previous editions of the tournament.

The runners-up of the Africa Cup of Nations will take home $4 million, while the two losing semi-finalists will receive $2.5 million each.

This increase in prize money demonstrates CAF’s commitment to supporting and promoting football development on the African continent.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in increasing the prize money for all major competitions under the Confederation’s purview.

He believes that this increase will not only contribute to the development of football in Africa but also assist member associations in their administrative tasks.

Motsepe’s vision is to create an environment where African football can thrive and compete on a global scale.

By increasing the prize money, CAF hopes to attract more talented players, enhance the quality of the tournament, and improve the overall standard of football in Africa.

The additional funds will also provide member associations with financial support for their administrative operations.

This is crucial in ensuring that football is effectively managed at all levels, from grassroots to professional leagues.

It will enable associations to invest in coaching, infrastructure, and youth development programs, which are essential for the long-term growth of the sport.

The increase in prize money is a positive step towards developing African football and empowering member associations.
