No Nedbank Cup action for Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Chaine after he lost his mother

Orlando Pirates are faced with the absence of goalkeeper Sipho Chaine for their upcoming Nedbank Cup clash against Hungry Lions at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

The shot-stopper has been granted compassionate leave by the club following the recent loss of his mother.

Chaine’s absence comes after he bravely took to the field just a day after his mother’s passing in Orlando Pirates’ thrilling 3-2 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby.

The goalkeeper’s dedication and commitment to the team during such a challenging time did not go unnoticed by fans and the club.

In a statement on the club’s website, Orlando Pirates confirmed Chaine’s unavailability for the upcoming match, stating, “Bucs goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is unavailable for selection, having been granted compassionate leave by the club following the passing of his mother.”

With Chaine taking time off to mourn and be with his family, coach Jose Riveiro will need to make a decision on who will stand between the posts for the crucial Nedbank Cup fixture.

Richard Ofori, who has been serving as the second-choice goalkeeper in recent games, is expected to step in and take on the role in Chaine’s absence.

As the Pirates gear up to face the Hungry Lions in the last 32 round of the Nedbank Cup, the team will undoubtedly rally together to support Chaine during this difficult period and give their best performance in his honour.
