Stop-and-search leads to multiple arrests of foreign nationals for various offences
Members of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, on standby for the National Elections, conducted stop-and-search operations in and around Mangaung, resulting in multiple arrests for drug dealing and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and an airgun following an attempted robbery.
While patrolling, the team assisted a colleague in Heidedal who had witnessed an attempted business robbery. With their help, one suspect was apprehended after a brief chase and found in possession of what was later identified as an airgun. The suspect was arrested for attempted business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and violation of the Immigration Act.
On May 29, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., two suspects, aged 26 and 29, were arrested for possessing Mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash.
On May 30, 2024, a 34-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested during a stop-and-search in Peterswartz after members found crystal meth and Mandrax tablets in his possession.
The detainees will soon appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on their respective charges.
