MTN wants to help small business suppliers

MTN would like to speak with you if you are selling two or more generators. On Wednesday evening the company sent an open call. This is for small-business suppliers in the middle of yet another day of Stage 6 load shedding. With the possibility of further electricity cuts.

According to a statement from the company, “MTN is asking all companies that have generators to become possible suppliers to MTN.” “MTN is looking to cooperate, whether the business has two or twenty generators.”

It can be reached by email at power@mtn.com from suppliers.

The companies have been promised a simple way to verify. However, they should know that it would still need to verify credentials.

MTN is calling for small business suppliers to help it with electricity

MTN Requirements

Its basic requirements include the following:

  • 40kVA generators, either petrol or diesel
  • A tank capacity of at least 100 litres
  • An upper noise level of 65dB.
  • A 10m trailing cable
  • A DIN 16 male plug

Teams from other projects have been sent to work on what MTN views as “an aggressive rollout of batteries, generators, and alternate power supplies,” and they are “working around the clock” to address what it called an electricity crisis.

MTN SA Chief Technology Officer Michele Gamberini said, in a statement that “even though we have put hundreds of batteries at our places all over the country, the effectiveness of those batteries lowers a lot after we pass Stage 4 load shedding.

The battery backup packs that keep the network running, according to Gamberini, can last up to 12 hours but need between 12 and 18 hours to recharge. And that is without taking into account the ongoing issue of battery theft.

According to the company, MTN, more than 2,000 generators have already been set up to handle Stage 4 and higher load shedding, and they are now using more than 400,000 liters of fuel every month.
