Mastermind of Lusikisiki mass shooting is serving a life sentence for another murder

The seventh individual arrested in connection with the Lusikisiki mass shooting is a convicted murderer currently serving a life sentence.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), 46-year-old Mzukisi Ndamase is alleged to have orchestrated the murder of 18 people in Lusikisiki.

The tragic incident occurred on September 28, 2024, when a hail of bullets claimed the lives of 15 women and three men.

NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali stated that Ndamase was apprehended from a Correctional Services facility.

“He has been apprehended from a Correctional Services facility,” Tyali confirmed.

Ndamase appeared in court today, where he chose to conduct his own defence, despite the court’s encouragement to seek legal representation, and he opted not to apply for bail.

To date, six other individuals have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting.

They include murder parolee Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45; Zenande Paya, 38; Mawethu Nomdlembu, 36; Aphiwe “AP” Ndende, 25; Lwando Antony Abi, 33; and Bonga Hintsa, 32.

All are facing 18 charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and they have also abandoned their bail applications.

Paya and Nomdlembu were arrested on October 17, 2024, in Flagstaff while in possession of four rifles and ammunition believed to have been moved to other locations.

Ndende and Hintsa were arrested in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal, while Abi was taken into custody in East London on October 16, 2024.

Myekethe was apprehended at his home in Lusikisiki on October 7, 2024.

All seven accused are scheduled to return to court on November 26, 2024.
