VIDEO|Suspect shot by his accomplice during a robbery gone wrong

A male suspect was arrested by police after being shot and injured by his accomplice during a robbery at a general trading store in Polokwane on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at approximately 3:25 p.m.

According to reports, a group of armed suspects entered the store, aiming a gun at the complainant who was assisting customers at the pay point. The suspects instructed everyone to lie down and demanded money from the cash registers.

During the robbery, one of the employees closed the steel door as one of the armed suspects approached him. The employee and suspect engaged in a struggle over the firearm, which resulted in a shot being fired and hitting one of the suspects.

In the ensuing chaos, customers fled, and three suspects escaped the scene, leaving behind the injured suspect. The suspects managed to steal an undisclosed amount of money from the cash registers.

Police were notified and responded promptly to the incident. The injured suspect, estimated to be in his early thirties, was arrested and transported to a hospital under police guard for medical treatment.

A case of business robbery and attempted murder has been opened. The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
