Mother appears in court for cutting off disabled son’s head and leaving body near a tavern

Stephina Sefekwane Chuene, a 48-year-old woman, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on May 6 and 7, 2024, in connection with the murder of her 18-year-old son. She was ordered to remain in custody until May 16, 2024, when a formal bail application will take place.

Chuene’s arrest followed a police report regarding the murder of a young man on Friday, May 3, 2024, at around 1:00 p.m. in the Leshikishiki village within the Lebowakgomo policing area.

When authorities arrived at the scene, located near a local tavern, they discovered the decapitated body of an 18-year-old man in a wheelchair, with his head found separately on the ground. Surprisingly, no one was present at the scene.

Investigations commenced immediately, and law enforcement managed to locate the deceased’s mother, Stephina Chuene. Evidence reportedly connected her to the murder, leading to her immediate arrest.
