Kaizer Chiefs to change the squad as new signings fade?

Amakhosi’s recent signings have been hit or miss, and the Glamour boys may enter the transfer market once more. While many of the new Kaizer Chiefs additions had promising starts to the season, a number of them have recently lost their steam.

Since there aren’t many options outside of the transfer window, it won’t be surprising if kaizer Chiefs use the World Cup break to consider some trialists or make plans for who they might target in January.

Recently, the club’s head coach, Arthur Zwane, acknowledged that more effort needs to be put into making new signings.

At what is essentially a mid-season break, GOAL had evaluated the performance of the new players and determines whether they have significantly improved the team.

Zitha Kwinika – 7

The tough-tackling centre-back remains the best signing Amakhosi made in pre-season. However, after some a series of near faultless performances in the opening few months, the ex-Stellenbosch FC defender has allowed a few errors to creep into his game over the past few weeks.

He failed to make the latest Bafana squad and also was not chosen by the fans to line up in the Carling Black Label Cup. Overall though, it must be said Kwinika looks a good signing.

Yusuf Maart – 7

Overall Maart has been a solid signing for Chiefs and his goal from inside his own half against Orlando Pirates is in the legendary category. Did go through a slight slip in form which resulted in him losing his Bafana place, but nonetheless, Maart is one of Amakhosi’s better acquisitions.

Edmilson Dove – 6.5

The left-footer was a late signing, but has ended up doing pretty well as a stop-gap centre-back. Has made a couple of mistakes, but not costly ones for the most part, and can be pleased with his contributions. Dove is arguably one of the better recent arrivals and along with Maart was one of only two new signings chosen by the fans for the Black Label starting XI.

I

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana 6.5

The Burundi international has netted six goals, though four of those were penalties.

Question marks though remain over his technique and his reliability – be it through injuries or suspensions he seems a temperamental type of player.

Dillon Solomons – 6

Started strongly for Amakhosi but has not really been able to keep the momentum and consistency going.

Ashley du Preez – 5.5

The talent and speed are there, but the composure and consistency have too often been missing. Chiefs have been crying out for a reliable striker but unfortunately, Du Preez is yet to convince he’s that player.

Siyethemba Sithebe – 5.5

The former AmaZulu midfielder was a regular starter in the opening weeks of the season but has become less and less influential and has barely played over the past month. Seemingly not an upgrade on the Glamour Boys’ multitude of midfield options.
