Kaizer Chiefs confirm Itumeleng Khune’s playing career is over, eyeing new role for the veteran goalkeeper

Kaizer Chiefs have provided a definitive update on the future of long-serving goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune. The club’s Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, alongside Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr, confirmed that Khune’s playing career at Amakhosi has come to an end. However, they remain committed to transitioning him into a new role within the club, saying they are keen to “take him to the next level.”

The 37-year-old goalkeeper has been a free agent since his contract with Chiefs expired at the end of June. Despite his desire to continue playing, no formal move has materialized for Khune, leaving his future as a player in doubt.

While Khune may still be exploring his playing options, the club appears to be preparing for his post-playing career, potentially offering him a new chapter within the Chiefs organization in a non-playing capacity. After a long and illustrious career at Kaizer Chiefs, Khune’s next move could solidify his legacy off the field.
