JUST IN|| ANC removes DA Joburg Mayor

Mpho Phalatse, a member of the DA, has lost her position as mayor of the City of Johannesburg. On Friday, an ANC-sponsored motion of no confidence resulted in Phalatse’s dismissal. This is despite the fact that she filed an urgent court interdict to stop the special council meeting.

According to Mike Moriarty, the DA’s head of staff in the city of Johannesburg, her interdict was dismissed by the Johannesburg High Court.

Just two days after the ANC, EFF, Patriotic Alliance, and other smaller parties elected Colleen Makhubele as speaker of the Cope City Council, the vote count revealed that 139 council members supported the motion to oust Phalatse as mayor.

On Friday, the council meeting is anticipated to elect a new mayor.

Dada Morero, the ANC’s leader in the caucus, is anticipated to be nominated.
The DA rejected requests from ActionSA and the Patriotic Alliance to give the speaker position to one of its coalition allies, preferably the IFP, which led to the ANC’s prospective takeover of the municipality.

TimesLIVE is informed that the PA has accepted the ANC’s offer of two MMC positions in return for its assistance in the installation of Makhubele and Morero. Eight council members represent the PA.
