Limpopo health official arrested for stealing food from patients

A hospital official in Limpopo has been arrested for allegedly stealing food items intended for patients’ meals. Thilivhali Muavha, spokesperson for the Limpopo health department, confirmed the incident, stating that the official took items such as stew beef, tinned fish, and fresh milk.

Muavha expressed dissatisfaction on the official’s actions, emphasising that it betrayed trust and showed selfishness.The department views this theft from vulnerable individuals as a breach of trust and a disregard for their well-being.

Muavha mentioned that the official was apprehended by hospital security personnel during a random search of staff members at the gate.

“A case was opened and the culprit has been arrested.”

This is not the first incident of its kind, in 2022, two food service aid officials at Letaba Hospital in Limpopo were arrested and charged with theft.

They were discovered in possession of packs of groceries intended for patients. The officials were apprehended as they were leaving the hospital after completing their night shift.
