On Tuesday, Hamas representatives participated in laying a wreath with Palestinians during the Mandela family’s tribute at a statue of the anti-apartheid icon. Mandla Mandela, the grandson of Nelson Mandela and a member of the ruling African National Congress (ANC), organized a conference on the Palestinian-Israel conflict.

Hamas wanted First-Hand Experience in South Africa

Mandla Mandela expressed that Hamas officials visited South Africa to gain first-hand experience of the daily atrocities in Gaza. Drawing parallels between South Africa’s struggle against apartheid and Gaza’s challenges, he emphasized the need to continue Mandela’s work in supporting a Palestinian state.

South Africa’s Political Stance

Mandla Mandela, part of the ANC, revealed the party’s support for closing the Israeli embassy and suspending diplomatic ties in protest against the war. President Cyril Ramaphosa officially called on the International Criminal Court to investigate what he termed Israel’s “war crimes” in Gaza.

Ongoing Israel-Hamas Conflict
