Gauteng man disappears after setting his girlfriend and her friend alight

Cops in the West Rand are on the hunt for a man who allegedly committed a heinous act by dousing his girlfriend and her friend with petrol before setting them alight.

The shocking incident occurred over the weekend, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that a case of arson and attempted murder has been opened in connection with the horrific attack.

The suspect, believed to be the boyfriend of one of the victims, is currently on the run, evading authorities.

The victims have been identified as Marishka David, 30, and Zakkiyah Raymond, 38.

Tragically, Raymond succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Sunday, devastating her loved ones.


Marishka’s mother, Mandy, recounted the harrowing events that transpired in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mandy revealed that the assailant attacked the women while they were asleep, callously throwing petrol on them before igniting the fire.

The brutal act left both women with severe burns, with Marishka sustaining injuries to her entire body.

She remains hospitalized, fighting for her life as she recovers from the traumatic ordeal.
