Law enforcement in Gauteng has made a significant breakthrough in combating the production of fake documentation. The Ekurhuleni Metro Police, in partnership with the Gauteng Special Law Enforcement Unit, arrested five suspects—two Malawians, two Nigerians, and one South African—in Kempton Park.

The suspects were found with equipment used to produce fraudulent documents, including police clearance certificates, driver’s licenses, matric certificates, firearm competency certificates, and other official papers.

The arrests followed a tip-off, leading authorities to a site equipped with photocopy, fax, and heat machines used to print these fake documents. The suspects, aged between 23 and 54, were detained at the Kempton Park Police Station. They now face charges of fraud, uttering, and attempting to bribe officers with R1,000 during their arrest.

This operation is part of a broader crackdown on counterfeit goods and documentation in South Africa. In parallel efforts, the National Counterfeit Goods Unit recently seized counterfeit items worth over R94 million across various regions, dealing a major blow to similar illegal activities.
