Former teacher accused of raping 11-year-old girl he taught

A former teacher from St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls has been accused of raping an 11-year-old girl.

The accused teacher confirmed that he had indeed taught the complainant in 2017, but vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

The man, who cannot be named until he has pleaded to the sexual offences charges, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, which was sitting in the prison court at Kgosi Mampuru correctional facility.

He was there for a formal bail application.

During the bail application, the teacher’s attorney, Johan Eksteen, read out his client’s affidavit.

In the affidavit, the teacher provided details about his arrest, his plans to emigrate, and his association with the complainant.

The accused teacher maintained his innocence and expressed his shock at the allegations against him.

According to his attorney, he stated, “I categorically deny any allegations of rape or any other sexual misconduct towards the complainant. I have never engaged in any inappropriate behavior with any learner during my tenure as a teacher.”
