Former Bolivian international footballer Sergio Jáuregui, aged 38, was brutally gunned down during a friendly match in Mexico.
The defender, who had a significant playing history with Atlético de San Luis Rey, was shot six times by an unknown attacker at close range while rehydrating on the bench.
The assailant reportedly stormed onto the field during the game in the Santa Inés neighborhood of Cuautla, Morelos, fired multiple shots, and swiftly fled the scene on a waiting motorbike.
Despite the prompt arrival of emergency services and ambulances, Jáuregui succumbed to his injuries almost immediately.

Sergio Jáuregui’s football career
Jáuregui, who spent most of his professional career in Bolivia, briefly joined Swiss side Yverdon-Sport FC in 2005.
Despite earning 13 caps for the national team, he retired from professional sports in 2015 at the age of 30.
