Female prison guards who teamed with Thabo Bester to sleep with prisoners for R1000 quit
According to an internal observation report, “Seven G4S officials have jumped ship, and five more are on suspension, with one official having been dismissed” while facing a probe.
This report highlights the ongoing issues at the scandal-ridden Mangaung Correctional Centre, where at least 13 officials are under scrutiny for “improper dealings with inmates.”
The report, obtained by Sunday World, paints a disturbing picture of the facility, alleging that officials from the department of correctional services and G4S members are involved in running syndicates within the center.
These activities reportedly include a sex ring, where female officials provide sexual services to offenders for a fee ranging from R1,000 to R1,500 per encounter.
Furthermore, the report reveals that drug trafficking is prevalent in the facility, particularly involving dagga, which is described as a high-demand and lucrative commodity.
The observation report specifically focuses on events that occurred between May 22-25, 2023, and implicates G4S intelligence officers in the syndicate activities at the Mangaung Correctional Centre.
The report identifies seven officers allegedly linked to drug syndicates and sex trafficking, shedding light on a prostitution ring where female G4S staff engage in sexual activities with offenders.
The G4S, a multinational security company managing the center for a monthly fee of R44 million, has come under intense scrutiny due to these revelations.
Mangaung Correctional Centre, along with Kutama Sinthumule Correctional facility in Makhado, Limpopo, are the only two private prisons in South Africa.
Following Bester’s escape and the involvement of G4S in improper activities, a department of correctional services interim management team has assumed control of the Mangaung facility.
Department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed that several G4S officials resigned during the investigation into improper dealings with inmates.
Nxumalo stated, “A total of seven G4S officials resigned when investigations were instituted due to ‘improper dealings with inmates.’ Currently on suspension are five officials, with one of them having been dismissed.”
He also noted that ongoing investigations are addressing the allegations outlined in the report.
