Father and son who set dog on employee attract interest from Bheki Cele and Ronald Lamola

The father and son who allegedly assaulted and set their dog on an employee appeared before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of attempted murder.

The court appearance drew the attention of government officials, including Police Minister Bheki Cele, Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola, and Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha.

The case against Pieter Groenewald and his son Stephan was postponed to February 7, and they were remanded in custody.

Tensions ran high outside the court as representatives from various political parties and lobby organizations picketed.

Police Minister Bheki Cele and Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola attended the court appearance, showing the seriousness of the case. The commotion outside the court last week highlighted the support the Groenewalds had from a crowd of people.

Pieter Groenewald, a security company owner, and his son Stephan were arrested for assaulting a security guard while on duty.

The incident occurred when the guard’s supervisor accused him of being intoxicated.

The supervisor and the guard then traveled to Groblersdal to discuss the matter with the manager, which resulted in an argument and the manager hitting the guard with a hard object.

The situation escalated when the security manager instructed a male relative to unleash their dog on the victim, resulting in the guard being bitten on both legs.

The guard reported the incident to the police, and charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were filed.

The swift action of the police led to the arrest of the two suspects, Pieter Groenewald and his son Stephan.

The case has now been brought before the court, where justice will be sought for the victim.
