Exclusive – Jurgen Klopp not walking alone away from Anfield as Liverpool captain drops exit bombshell

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has expressed uncertainty about his future at the club, admitting that he is unsure if he will be part of the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

The Dutch defender, who has been a key player for Liverpool since joining the club in 2018, made the comments in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

When asked about his future at Liverpool, van Dijk said: “I have no idea what the future will bring. We will have to wait and see what happens. I don’t think about it, I just focus on my recovery and getting back to full fitness.”

Van Dijk has been sidelined since October 2020 with a serious knee injury, and has been working hard to regain his fitness ahead of the new season.

Despite his injury, he remains one of the most highly-rated defenders in world football, and has been linked with a move away from Liverpool in the past.

However, van Dijk was quick to dismiss any speculation about his future, insisting that he is fully committed to Liverpool and focused on helping the team achieve success.

“I’m a Liverpool player and I love playing for this club,” he said. “I want to come back stronger than ever and help the team win trophies. That’s all I’m thinking about right now.”

Van Dijk also spoke about the departure of former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who left the club at the end of last season after six years in charge.

“Jurgen was a massive influence on me and on the whole team,” he said. “He brought us together and helped us achieve great things. We’ll always be grateful for what he did for us.”

Despite Klopp’s departure, van Dijk remains optimistic about Liverpool’s future, and believes that the team can continue to compete at the highest level under new manager Jurgen Klopp.

“We have a great squad and a great manager,” he said.

“We’re all focused on the new season and we’re ready to give our all for the club. I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
