Emtee demands apology from Mike’s Kitchen
Award-winning rapper Emtee has demanded an apology from a Parktown restaurant, Mike’s Kitchen, after he and his friends were allegedly denied entrance based on their appearance.
The incident occurred earlier this week when the group visited the restaurant for dinner but were turned away because, as stated in a letter from Emtee’s legal representatives, they “smelled of weed and had many tattoos.”
In a letter issued by Emtee’s legal team, it was revealed that the rapper and his friends were not only denied entry but were also escorted out of the premises and left stranded on the street after their driver had departed.
The situation left Emtee feeling disrespected and heartbroken, prompting him to express his frustration on social media.
Emtee took to Instagram to share his disappointment, comparing the incident to a previous negative experience he had faced.
He added: “This is worse than the avocado story. I worry about my kids who are mixed race, have a father who is a rapper that gets disrespected and ridiculed and made fun of his whole career…
“My heart is broken. Thank God I didn’t have security on the day so @mannytarget just saw some black kids with tattoos. Not knowing who the f*#k I am. I can’t talk to anyone about this because everyone just wants me to shut up. I’m sorry. I can’t. I will not rest until something is done about this.”
He expressed concerns about the impact on his children, particularly highlighting the challenges faced by mixed-race individuals and the discrimination he has encountered throughout his career.
The rapper’s legal representatives have given Mike’s Kitchen until today to issue an apology or potentially face legal action.
Emtee’s demand for accountability underscores the importance of addressing discrimination and prejudice in all forms.
The incident has sparked a conversation about societal biases and the need for greater awareness and inclusivity in public spaces.
