21-year-old Edenville woman appears in court for public indecency and assault

A 21-year-old woman, Mapaseka Julia Khacha, appeared before the Edenville Magistrate Court on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, facing charges of assault and public indecency.

The case has been postponed to August 6, 2024, for a bail application, which the State plans to oppose.

Free State Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani reported that Khacha’s court appearance follows the emergence of a video showing a 26-year-old female victim being assaulted and paraded naked through the streets.

On Sunday, July 28, 2024, around 5:00 AM, the victim was allegedly leaving her boyfriend’s house when she was confronted by Khacha at the door.

Khacha accused the victim of having an affair with her boyfriend, assaulted her, and undressed her. Khacha then called her family members, who joined in the assault and paraded the victim naked through Edenville’s streets.

Investigations led to Khacha’s arrest, and further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

Authorities urge anyone with possession of the video to delete it and refrain from sharing it to prevent further humiliation of the victim.
