Councillor still has 4 bullets stuck in his body after attempted hit

A week after surviving an attempt on his life, Kouga mayoral committee member Jaques Alexander found himself overseeing security upgrades at his Humansdorp residence.

Armed guards stood watch outside his home, keeping a close eye on all movement in the area.

While still recovering from the harrowing incident, with four bullets still lodged in his upper body, Alexander remained resolute.

He recounted the events of the fateful day, stating, “If I think of how badly this could have ended, I really don’t mind a little discomfort.”

Four men charged with attempted murder in connection to the attack appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court.

Their new attorney, Bond Nyoka, alleged that his clients had been assaulted by the police on two occasions since their arrest shortly after Alexander was shot.

Despite the traumatic experience, Alexander expressed gratitude for his survival.

He stated, “Considering I still have four bullets in my body I am actually doing really well.”

The councillor described the moment he realized he was under attack, recalling, “At first I didn’t realize the loud bangs were gunshots. I turned in my seat to see what was making that noise when I saw my car window was shattered. Then it clicked they were gunshots, and someone was actually shooting at me.”

Alexander’s quick thinking and prompt action in alerting the authorities led to a swift response from police and security personnel, who apprehended two suspects fleeing the scene.
