Club revellers left shocked as corpse is found with stolen phones

Club revellers at a night club in Chikanga’s TM area in Mutare were left stunned when they discovered their stolen cellphones hidden inside knee-high socks on a thief who met a tragic end.

The incident occurred late last Friday when McDonald Muparutsa (31) was fatally assaulted by his colleague, Lovemore Biggie Nyanzou (26), following a dispute over sharing the stolen loot.

According to Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the fatal confrontation took place at Rio Night Club in Chikanga TM.

Muparutsa was caught red-handed snatching a cellphone from a patron’s pocket.

Nyanzou, who witnessed the theft, confronted Muparutsa outside the club and demanded a share of the stolen goods. When Muparutsa refused, Nyanzou allegedly head-butted him, causing him to collapse.

As onlookers gave chase and apprehended Nyanzou, the police arrived at the scene to find Muparutsa’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

However, the situation took a bizarre twist when revellers, who had lost their phones during the night, dialed their numbers using other people’s phones and discovered the ringing coming from the deceased Muparutsa’s socks.

Witness Mr Lawrence Zvamunongoda expressed his shock, stating, “It was shocking to see cellphones being retrieved from the deceased person’s socks. I noticed five cellphones being retrieved from the socks.”

This incident highlights the brazenness and audacity of thieves who operate in crowded public places.

The police are currently investigating the matter and have urged anyone with information to come forward. They have also warned the public to be cautious and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
