Chiefs move better for Pirates’ Lorch than Mamelodi Sundowns?
Large-scale players from the Buccaneers have already been acquired by Masandawana, including Teko Modise, Oupa Manyisa, and Gift Leremi. Thembinkosi Lorch will presumably continue to be linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, Chiefs, and other PSL teams until he is once again playing for Orlando Pirates.
The Bafana Bafana winger’s prolonged absence from the team due to a knee injury has caused much conjecture over his future with the Soweto giants.

Since he hasn’t played for the Buccaneers in four months, rumours about his condition have been fueled by the Pirates’ lack of communication.
It’s also important to note that following his outstanding 2018–19 season, in which he scored 15 goals across all competitions and was voted the PSL Player of the Season, Lorch’s output—games played goals, and assists—has been declining.
According to Goal, a fresh start might allow the former Bafana regular Lorch, 29, to get his career back on track as soon as possible.
Should it, however, be at Sundowns, where he would be working with Rhulani Mokwena, his old coach?
Considering the competition, perhaps not – it’s difficult for any player to earn consistent playing time against the legendary Brazilians.

Lorch is primarily a winger who plays on the right side of the field. However, he is also capable of playing as a number 10 or central attacking midfielder, on the left wing, or even as a striker if necessary.
There are many players at Sundowns who perform a similar function. Along with attackers Peter Shalulile and Abubeker Nasir, it also features Themba Zwane, Bongani Zungu, Marcelo Allende, Lebohang Maboe, Neo Maema, Bradley Ralani, Gaston Sirino, Erwin Saavedra, Haashim Domingo, Gift Motupa, and Thabiso Kutumela.
It’s nearly impossible for Lorch to overtake that many players, especially considering how little football he has played.
As a result, there is a chance that he may sulk on the bench or possibly in the stands at Masandawana.

At Lorch’s current team, the Orlando Pirates, players like Monnapule Saleng, Fortune Makaringe, Vincent Pule, Deon Hotto, Zakhele Lepasa, and recently signed Craig Martin are all vying for the same positions. New striker additions Kermit Erasmus and Ndumiso Mabena are also in the mix.
It’s interesting to know that Kaizer Chiefs are searching for attackers who can score goals and create chances, and Pule Mmodi and other players have been mentioned in connection with their search.
While it’s still a long chance, Lorch wouldn’t be the first Buccaneer to switch from black and white to black and gold because there is less competition for positions on the wings at Kaizer Chiefs.
The fact that he hasn’t been playing, though, remains a worry, making a mid-season transfer dangerous for any club because Lorch would need some time to recover from being injured and function at full strength.
