Bafana Bafana’s AFCON 2024 Preliminary Squad Announced

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced the preliminary squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Bafana will be hoping to lift the trophy for the first time since 1996

The 34th edition of the continental tournament will take place in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

Coach Broos’s team will come together for practice on January 4, 2024. Soon after the team is set for Stellenbosch for training until January 9, 2024.

Before departing for Côte d’Ivoire on January 11, 2024, Bafana Bafana will have a closed-door practice match against Lesotho at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

In the tournament, they will first face Mali. The top two teams in their group are guaranteed to qualify for the next round, along with the four best-placed third teams.

Following that, Bafana will play against Namibia on January 21, and the another knockout match against Tunisia is scheduled for the 24th of January.

Broos still has to trim the squad down to 23 names before the tournament.

New faces in the squad include the recently impressive Bruce Bvuma. Melusi Buthelezi has also made a return to the squad with 10 clean sheets in 8 games for Orlando Pirates.

Fans will also be excited to see Burnley striker make the list following his open struggles with mental health.
