Bad cop caught up in kidnapping drama

A multidisciplinary team assigned to investigate the kidnapping of Zahraa Mohammed, 17, and Bataviya Mohammed, 19, has made significant progress in the case.

The team recently apprehended two additional suspects, one of whom is a police sergeant attached to Letlhabile detectives in North West.

According to Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, the North West police spokesperson, the team also seized a vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction.

The Mohammed cousins were taken while on their way to school in Hartbeespoort on March 6.

The incident involved a staged collision between their Mercedes-Benz and a maroon Audi A3, followed by armed men coercing them into a white VW Polo.

Fortunately, the cousins were found unharmed on Monday in a residence in Klipgat, near Winterveld and Mabopane.

The Audi used in the crime was reportedly stolen in Garsfontein in March, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation.

Initially, six suspects were arrested by the team, but after further investigation, two were cleared and released.

The remaining suspects are set to appear before the Brits magistrate’s court to face charges of kidnapping and extortion.
