Bucs in talks with Ofori about new contract

The Ghanaian goalkeeper’s contract with the Bucs is scheduled to end in June of the following year.

An insider in the Soweto giant’s camp has revealed that Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori and Orlando Pirates will soon begin contract negotiations because the goalkeeper’s time with the Buccaneers will expire at the end of the current season.

Ofori, who has been the club’s top choice since he arrived in 2020 and is currently recuperating from an injury that forced him out of the Ghana World Cup squad, will receive a longer contract from Pirates.

Ofori, a goalie who came to the Buccaneers from Maritzburg United, replaced the club’s previous top keeper, Wayne Sandilands, who has since left.

The 29-year-old is said to be keen on continuing with the club and the Pirates management is said to have complete faith in Ofori to agree to a new deal to stay longer with the club.

The Sea Robbers won the MTN8 after defeating AmaZulu FC 1-0 in the championship, giving the Ghanaian international his first trophy of the year.

“I think a lot of people know that Ofori’s contract is ending next year, so, obviously there have to be talks between the player and the management. It has to happen soon because if you take time in such situations you might end up losing the player. He is the number one choice at the club and the management obviously wants to keep him,” said the source.

Oforoli has shown consistency and remarkable skills in the goals and it will be in the Bucs’ best interest to extend the contract it has with this talent.
