Singer Zonke owes SARS R18 million

Singer, producer, and composer Zonke Dikana owes the South African Revenue Service (SARS) R18 million, similar to other South African artists like Somizi Mhlongo, Cassper Nyovest, Makhadzi, Dr Malinga, Euphonik, and DJ Black Coffee, who have also struggled with their taxes.

Zonke has reportedly not paid her taxes for a few years.

A source said, “She has been paying her taxes, but some details slipped through the cracks, and she defaulted.

This sort of thing can easily happen to artists because they are self-employed and get paid for gigs per invoice.”

This year, Zonke purchased a Bentley and a Mercedes V-Class bus for her tour.

Documents seen by ZiMoja show that a garnishing order has been placed on her bank account, meaning she is now paying off her debt in instalments.

“The issue isn’t just defaulting; the taxman had difficulty reaching her. The matter could have been resolved earlier, but she was unreachable, and her debt grew with charges,” the source added, noting that Zonke is working on the issue with her legal team and accountants.

Zonke has not commented on the situation.

Other South African celebrities have also faced tax issues. Cassper Nyovest previously owed over R6 million, while Somizi Mhlongo owed R3.5 million dating back to 2014 and had some of his possessions auctioned off.

Makhadzi is still paying off over R6 million owed to SARS. DJ Black Coffee owed R40 million but negotiated it down to R8 million and agreed to sell some of his properties to pay it off.
