Zwane doesn’t believe AmaZulu have a coaching problem

AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane believes that having two coaches will work well because he and Vusumuzi Vilakazi understand each other very well.

In recent seasons, South African football has tried using co-coaching instead of just one head coach with assistants, but it hasn’t always been successful.

Teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United have experimented with this but later returned to having a single head coach.

Zwane, who joined AmaZulu this month, discussed this topic with iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu.

He explained that different approaches suit different teams.

He mentioned that both he and Vilakazi share a belief in young talent and that their responsibilities as head coach and assistant are equally important.

“I know a lot of people view this co-coaching thing differently,” Zwane told iDiski Times.

“But I’ll tell you something, when a coach is leading, he has his assistant. It’s more like co-coaching. Yes, one has to take the responsibility, which is the head coach, but the assistants are also doing similar responsibilities. It’s just the title.

“I wouldn’t want to talk about other coaches because I don’t know their situations, but in our case, I believe it’s going to work. We know each other very well. We believe in youngsters; we believe in getting results. We think alike on many things that others might not see. We are already sharing responsibilities—no one wants to be the boss.

“It is not about being a boss. Nowadays, there are no longer bosses; there are leaders. We meet, share ideas, and engage every member of the technical team so that everyone is aligned.

“You know it’s not about us. It’s about AmaZulu; that’s the key thing for us. It’s about the club. So, it’s not about who’s in charge or who is doing what. What matters now is for the club to return to where it belongs, perform well, and grow. We will have done our job if we achieve that.”
