Blxckie talks new single ‘South,’ fatherhood, and upcoming US tour
In an exclusive interview with IOL Entertainment, award-winning rapper Blxckie opened up about his new single “South,” his journey into fatherhood, and his upcoming tour in the US.
The Durban-born artist, whose real name is Sihle Sithole, recently released the track as part of the Sprite Limelight campaign. T
his year has been busy for him both musically and personally, as he has become a dad and received a nomination for a 2024 BET Hip Hop Award.
Blxckie explained that “South” was created in collaboration with the production duo Daytrip.
They started with a sample and worked on three different versions before finalising the track.
His international tour, called “see u soon,” is named after his EP, which he released under his new label, Def Jam.
“‘See u soon’ is me telling people here at home that I’ve got some work to do outside the country, so I’ll be back; I’ll see you soon,” he said during the interview.
Blxckie expressed his excitement about his BET Hip Hop Award nomination and noted that it reflects the growing recognition of local hip hop, with many artists releasing chart-topping music.
As a new dad, he shared his experiences in fatherhood.
He mentioned that it has been a journey filled with many firsts, but he is learning a lot and that his baby is healthy.
When asked about going on tour and leaving his daughter behind after building a bond with her, he admitted, “It hurts a little bit. Since she’s been born, I haven’t really been out of the country or away for that long.”
What’s next for Blxckie
Despite being a new parent, Blxckie has quickly picked up skills like changing diapers, thanks to advice he found online.
His tour will kick off on his birthday, November 24, and he’s excited to see how his hard work has built a strong brand and reputation in the industry.
He hopes fans will come out to enjoy his music and experience the different genres he explores.
