TS Galaxy determined to play in KwaMhlanga

TS Galaxy, remain determined to play at the KwaMhlanga Stadium, located in the heart of the KwaNdebele area.

Currently, the team uses Mbombela Stadium as their home ground, and has even played matches at Buffalo City Stadium in East London, but they aspire to return to their roots.

The Solomon Mahlangu Stadium has been under renovation for nearly nine years, with no completion date in sight.

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi expressed frustration over the prolonged wait, emphasizing the emotional and cultural significance of the stadium to the local community.

“Nine years later, the KwaMhlanga Stadium is still not completed or fit to host PSL matches. I told the municipality about our dream back in 2016, and while promises were made, we’re still waiting for action. It’s unjust for the people here who have supported us immensely,” Sukazi stated.

The Thembisile Hani municipality had previously issued a R30-million tender to upgrade the stadium, which once served as the home for Witbank Aces in the 1980s.

Officials are optimistic that renovations could be completed by mid-2025, allowing the stadium to host major soccer events.

Sukazi reiterated that the stadium is intrinsically linked to the club’s identity: “This is our home, and it belongs to us. The renovations are a direct result of our presence as a club. Just like Mamelodi Sundowns’ connection to their venues, we are rooted in KwaNdebele.”

The completion of the stadium, with a capacity of 20,000, could provide a significant financial boost not only to TS Galaxy but also to surrounding communities. Local vendors could thrive by selling food, drinks, and merchandise during match days.

Bringing PSL matches to the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium could create a formidable atmosphere, making it a challenging venue for visiting teams, similar to how Black Leopards and Maritzburg United benefit from their home grounds.

What’s next for TS Galaxy

As TS Galaxy continues to pursue their dream, the hope remains that the stadium will soon reflect the pride and passion of the KwaNdebele people.
