Mother and teenage son in court for the murder of husband
A 36-year-old mother, Refilwe Molekoa, and her 19-year-old son, Goitsemang Madibela, appeared in the Moretele Magistrates’ Court today, facing charges for the alleged murder of her husband, Lucas Molekoa. The two were arrested at their home in Maubane village, near Makapanstad, on Monday, 2 September 2024.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, 25 August 2024. Lucas Molekoa, 63, was watching soccer with his stepson when an argument broke out between the two. As the argument escalated, it turned physical.Refilwe allegedly tried to intervene but was unsuccessful.
According to reports, when her husband began to overpower her son, she struck him on the head with an object, causing him to fall. It is further alleged that the mother and son then strangled the victim with a rope.
After the incident, they reportedly called out to their neighbours, claiming their house had been robbed. Police were called to the scene, and following an investigation, Refilwe and Goitsemang were taken in for questioning. They were later charged with murder after evidence suggested their involvement in the crime.
The suspects remain in custody and are scheduled to apply for bail on Friday, 13 September 2024.
