Weeping Thembinkosi Lorch phones boss Rulani Mokwena as Nedbank Cup final appearance now hangs on a thread

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has expressed his support for Thembinkosi Lorch, revealing that the star player was left in tears after a video of him dancing with two women went viral on social media.

The footage surfaced amidst Sundowns’ celebrations for their seventh consecutive DStv Premiership title.

Speaking on Sports Night Amplified, Mokwena shared that Lorch reached out to him, visibly distressed by the situation.

“Lorch called me and he was in tears,” Mokwena revealed. “I’m close to my players…when my players are crying and are emotional, I get emotional, and I cry, and I feel their pain too.”

While acknowledging his disappointment, Mokwena emphasized Lorch’s humanity, stating, “Lorch is human. Like me, who makes mistakes, who is imperfect. I’m probably even more imperfect than him and I probably make more mistakes than him.”

He further highlighted the responsibility that comes with being a public figure: “We also have to understand the role we hold in society, that says ours is to inspire and educate and serve. We’ve got a bigger role than just what people think.”

Lorch, who joined Sundowns from Orlando Pirates in January, has made a significant impact on the team, scoring two goals in 10 league appearances and contributing to their CAF Champions League run.

This incident has put Lorch in the spotlight ahead of a highly anticipated clash, as Sundowns prepare to face Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
