Foreigner caught at OR Tambo airport trying to take two ladies he met on a dating site to Europe
A 56-year-old German national, Joachim Will, is facing charges of human trafficking and fraud after being arrested in connection with an attempt to take two Madagascan women to Croatia using fraudulent documents.
The arrest took place on April 30th at OR Tambo International Airport, following a joint operation by the West Rand Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Interpol, Crime Intelligence, and Gauteng’s Provincial Border Policing.
According to Hawks spokesperson Colonel Philani Nkwalase, the two women, aged 32 and 29, were initially intercepted by Border Management Authorities on April 19th as they attempted to board a flight to Croatia with Will.
They were found in possession of fraudulent Italian passports and subsequently arrested, but later released.
“It is alleged that Will had recruited the women through a dating site in Madagascar,” Nkwalase explained.
He further elaborated that Will allegedly lured the women with promises of employment and attractive salaries in Croatia.
“He facilitated their travel to South Africa and reportedly provided them with fraudulent Italian passports for their trip from South Africa to Croatia.”
Will appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday and will remain in custody until his bail hearing next week. He is expected back in court on May 10th for a formal bail application.
