Ethiopian shop owner arrested with drugs worth R1 Million
The Limpopo Provincial Organized Crime Unit arrested a 43-year-old Ethiopian male suspect for dealing in illicit drugs at a complex in Jane Furse on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the unit followed the information to locate the suspect, who owns a store in town, and took him to his residence.
At his home in the Morena complex, they discovered 74 sachets of heroin and a large plastic bag containing a brownish powder substance suspected to be heroin inside a wardrobe.
The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately one million rand (R1,000,000), and cash totaling R165,400 was seized. During the search, officers also identified counterfeit products, which were also registered.The suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in illicit drugs.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the team for their prompt response, noting that drugs significantly contribute to crime.
The suspect will appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, April 18, 2024, to face charges related to dealing in illicit drugs.
Police investigations are ongoing.
