The reawakening of Orlando Pirates goal poacher Tshegofatso Mabasa

Tshegofatso Mabasa has emerged as a key player for Orlando Pirates during a crucial phase of the football season as they push for a spot in the CAF Champions League.

The 27-year-old striker has been in sensational form, highlighted by his recent hat-trick against Golden Arrows in a Premier Soccer League game.

Mabasa’s journey to prominence this season has been remarkable, considering he was deemed surplus to requirements at Pirates last season and spent time on loan at Sekhukhune United and Moroka Swallows.

However, his return to the Pirates squad in January has seen him make a significant impact, with four PSL goals and three in the Nedbank Cup.

Orlando Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, has praised Mabasa’s resurgence, attributing his loan spells to his desire for consistent game time.

“He is back and performing at a very good level, and he is helping us to play better and to score goals,” the Spaniard said.

Riveiro acknowledged that Mabasa’s return has bolstered the team’s attacking prowess and expressed hope for his continued success.

Mabasa’s stellar performances have overshadowed other promising strikers at the club, such as Zakhele Lepasa and Evidence Makgopa.

With the Nedbank Cup defense in sight, Pirates will rely on Mabasa’s goal-scoring prowess as they face AmaZulu in the quarter-finals.
