Angry makoti demolishes husband’s house in dramatic family feud
In the morning of 24 March, the community of Boiketlo village in Casteel near Acornhoek was waken by the sounds of a Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) machine at a quiet neighborhood. The machine was not there to fix their bad road but to demolish a beautiful house.
According to a woman who prefer to remain anonymous and will be referred to as makoti, the family feud started in 2023 three years after the death of her husband. Her 38-year-old husband died in a car accident near Hazyview in 2021.
According to makoti, she has always been in a long distance marriage working in Gauteng and while her late husband was working in Mpumalanga.
According to her, the problems started when her late husband’s second older brother, who is residing around Mpumalanga highveld, asked for permission to use her house for the celebration of his son initiation school graduations.
She said she gave him the permission to use the house for the celebration, however she didn’t make it back home to celebrate with the family around August.
The house was allegedly built on land that belongs to her late husband’s parents. Her late husband who was a politician, was the fourth child and the last of the males children.
Allegedly, the celebrations quickly turned into a family emergency meeting where they discussed future plans about her house in her absence.
In that meeting, they agreed that the same brother who reside around Witbank be the owner of the house since makoti is no longer coming home regularly after the death of their brother.
They fired the part-time helper she hired and took back gifts she gave to her such as bed and TV stand.
House keys were also changed without makoti’s concern and her sister in law moved into the house.
Makoti wins and makes a dramatic decision
Following a legal battle with her in- laws, she won the case.
“I offered them an opportunity to buy it[the house ] but they refused, accusing me of killing their brother” she said.
She then made a drastic decision to demolish the house last month, after what she calls unbearable insults and disrespects from her inlaws.
