Siya Kolisi breaks his silence about losing Springboks captaincy

Revered two-time World Cup-winning captain of the Springboks, Siya Kolisi, has come to terms with the reality that he will relinquish his leadership role within the national team due to his overseas base.

The announcement comes following comments from Bok head coach Rassie Erasmus, who expressed a preference for the team’s captain to be playing in South Africa, particularly with their upcoming Test scheduled for June.

Rugby 365 reports that Kolisi, who made the move to French club Racing 92 after securing his second World Cup victory in October, acknowledged the inevitable consequence of his decision to join the European outfit.

Speaking to reporters in Paris, the 32-year-old flanker expressed his acceptance of the situation, stating, “That’s normal. I knew that before making the decision to come here.”

Despite the forthcoming change in his captaincy status, Kolisi remains focused on his return to the field following a thumb injury sustained in early March.

With a keen desire to resume playing, he shared his optimism about his recovery progress, affirming, “I feel good, my hand is good.”
