Lawyer in court drama as she threatens to bewitch state witness
Harare attorney Linda Kovi has found herself entangled in a legal battle as charges were brought against her by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) on Tuesday.
Kovi stands accused of obstruction of justice and attempting to intimidate witnesses involved in an ongoing case.
Appearing before Harare Magistrate Donald Ndirowei, Kovi sought bail in response to the allegations leveled against her.
The State, represented by Anesu Chirenje, detailed the accusations that Kovi had contacted a key witness, Shorai Mupunga, and allegedly tried to dissuade her from testifying in a fraud case.
Court documents disclosed that Kovi purportedly issued threats to Mupunga, warning of dire consequences from a traditional healer if she cooperated with authorities.
Furthermore, it was alleged that Kovi sought the assistance of Chief Dotito, a traditional healer, to use spiritual means against Zacc officers and court personnel handling her case.
Investigating officer Elisha Chimusoro supported these claims, stating that Kovi had intimidated witnesses with the threat of negative outcomes.
In her defense, Kovi refuted the allegations, asserting that she did not have access to witness information and therefore could not have interfered with the legal proceedings.
The court is set to deliver a ruling on her bail application on Wednesday.
Additionally, background investigations into Kovi’s legal qualifications have surfaced troubling inconsistencies, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
